Start with the format, not the waterfall photograph. The cards range from four-hour introductory walks in Serra de Água or Paradise Valley to seven- and eight-hour days at Levada do Rei, Caldeirão Verde and Rabaçal. A nearly level watercourse can still have damp, narrow or exposed sections, so duration alone does not tell you how demanding it is.

Guided walks combine transport with somebody setting the route and pace.
